This really only applies to people who actually use Norton Antivirus software and who want to verify a site. I have found that when I surf the web Norton has put little warning flags at the end of each site. So how do you verify a site using Norton safe web???
What do these flags mean?
Green Tick = Safe
Yellow Exclamation Mark = Caution
Red Cross = Warning
Grey Question Mark = Untested
I have 3 sites that have been untested, well as this is written they are being verified now. I know myself when I surf the web when you see these warning flags you do tend to take caution. Even if the site has been untested you may visit. So if this is your site that has been tested then you could potentially be missing out on more visitor’s, subscribers or even new customers. So get your site tested. It is not a hard procedure. So I made a short video of how to do it.
How To Verify A Site
As you know I use Jing for my screen capture so I am limited to 5 minutes. So it does get a little rushed to wards the end. So I will explain it below too just in case you missed anything.
First go over to http://safeweb.norton.com and sign up for a free account. Once you have signed up go into your account and click onto the “My Profile”
Then click onto the tab “site dispute”. Here you can add as many site’s as you want to get verified. There are two ways in which you can get your site verified. Using meta tags or uploading a HTML file. I struggled with using meta tags so went down the path of uploading the HTML file. You may find using meta tags easier but for me it was the HMTL file
I just followed the instruction that were given. Download the HTML file. Make sure you remember where you have downloaded the file. Your desktop is a good place so you can see it straight away. Once you have delt with it you can just delete it.
I then opened my FTP client which is CuteFTP. This is a paid version but Filezilla is a free version and works just fine. Log into the site you are wanting to be tested. If you are unfamilair with a FTP client it is where you transfer your files from your computer to your server onto the Internet and so that the public can see your files.
It is split into two screens the left side showing what is on your computer and the right side showing what is on your server. On the right side I opened the public_html folder. I then looked across on the left hand side to find the file which I had downloaded from Norton Safe Web. Left click and drag across to the right. This then uploads the file.
Now in the video above you will see me click onto the file I have just uploaded. This is where I start running out of time and you see me rush a little. What I do is highlight the file and copy it. Go to my browser and type in the site I want verified. “www.mysite.com/copiedfile” If you have uploaded the file correctly it should show up in your browser.
If it does great you have been succesful uploading the HTML file to your site. Now go back to your profile on the Norton Safe Web site and click verify now. It could take a few days for your site to be verified. One of my sites was sitting on page 2 of google for a certain keyword. When I got it verified it is now on page 1. I have done nothing else to it apart from get the site verified.
May need to look into this a little deeper as I only wanted the little green tick after it but if getting your site verified gives you a push in your rankings then this is an essential part of SEO

Thanks for the data. I was under the impression that they would get around to verifying you by chance. I had no idea that it was possible. I really appreciate the tip.
